Exclusive Interview with Vimi Wellness Founder Zhang Xinyuan: Uncovering the “Her Needs” Overlooked in Bias and Blank Spaces

At 5:30 a.m., before the sky over Hangzhou has even lightened, Zhang Xinyuan is already in front of the camera. In a clear voice she guides thousands of women through pelvic-floor exercises. On the other side of the screen, students aged 35 to 60 contract and relax in rhythm, perspiration beading on their foreheads. After the two-hour session ends, she gulps down a breakfast prepared by her nutritionist and rushes into the next shoot—short-form videos. This slice of daily life is typical for the founder of Vimi Wellness, and it is also the spark that lights a private-health beacon for countless Chinese women.

The emotional-influencer with more than five million followers, and entrepreneur who now runs two women’s intimate-health clinics, once had to sell her apartment to pay debts and survived three mass partner walkouts. The“21-Day Vimi Wellness Program”she created has already helped tens of thousands of women overcome incontinence, dryness and emotional anxiety.“The body is the starting point of everything beautiful,”Zhang insists. These neglected“her needs”deserve to be seen—and answered.

Breaking Cognitive Walls

What do women pursue in a lifetime?

In 2004, in Guangzhou, the twenty-something Zhang plunged into the beauty industry. Rising from entry-level employee to senior manager, she met countless glamorous clients:“They drove luxury cars, carried designer bags and lived in mansions, yet secretly wiped away tears in the curtained cubicles of beauty salons.”These women, wealthy and professionally empowered, were trapped in miserable marriages.“They had money and careers, but no happiness.”

What did women actually want from life? The question haunted her for five years.“Back then, I thought money and control equaled happiness, but watching them, I began to doubt: what are we really chasing?”In 2009, a study trip to the United States handed her the answer.

There she saw mothers teaching children, naturally and openly, about cleansing, grooming, trimming—buying lubricant was as routine as buying shampoo.“It was like thirty years ago when Chinese thought using facial cleanser was pretentious; China’s intimate-health market was still frozen tundra.”The systematic sex education—from age 0 to 18—taught her that“sex education is not just physiology; it’s education for a complete personality. If a person doesn’t know how to give or receive love, the personality is incomplete.”

Armed with new knowledge and seeing China’s beauty sector saturated, Zhang made a decision peers could not grasp: she resigned as a beauty-industry executive and pivoted to women’s intimate health. In 2010 she and two partners launched a brand, embedding intimate care into beauty treatments.“Chinese women won’t pay for counseling, but they’ll accept education if it comes free with products.”She pioneered a“Female Family-Relationship Therapy”model, moving from physical repair to psychological reconstruction. The team grew to 200 staff; products entered the nation’s top three beauty-salon chains, becoming the sector’s benchmark. In 2017 the company added a medical division—the seed of today’s Vimi Wellness (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd.

A Life-or-Death Turning Point

What should I do for women’s health?

June 1, 2019: Zhang’s life hit pause. Under unbearable pressure, her partners voted to shut the nearly ten-year-old company. Within weeks she re-launched with loyal staff. “I know this industry too well to stop.” The newborn Vimi Wellness immediately collided with 2020’s pandemic; offline traffic evaporated, the company bled cash, and four partners exited. Where was the next path? Zhang didn’t know, but she was certain: she would carve one.

In early 2022 Zhang pivoted online, filming short videos and live-streaming daily. The second wave of shareholders still didn’t understand her “fussing”—“They said I was neglecting the clinics to play influencer.” After six straight months of losses, the investors insisted on selling the hospitals. Zhang bought them out: “I scraped together the money and returned every share.”

Amid despair, a turning point arrived. On impulse she moved the offline “Vimi Rejuvenation Technique” online. The 21-day course exploded. “We started with only morning sessions; students kept asking ‘how do I maintain this?’ so we added evening classes.” The formula—morning workouts, midday diet coaching, evening psychology classes—became the key to breaking through. At peak, thousands train simultaneously online; nearly 300,000 highly targeted followers populate the private domain.

Speaking of that period, she laughs lightly: “Intention matters. I knew this could help people, so I believed it would work.”

Breaking Industry Circles

Awakening women’s underlying needs with a “three-dimensional system”

In Vimi’s back-end dashboard sits striking data: 20,000+ paid students, 2,000+ medical members. The high stickiness stems from Zhang’s“three-dimensional system”: sexual-psychology reshape, sexual-physiology cognition, sexual-behavior training—three interlocking links, none dispensable.

“A woman’s sexual experience is not innate, unlike a man’s; it must be learned,” she often says in class. “‘Thirty like a wolf, forty like a tiger’ isn’t exaggeration—it’s a biological law of arousal.” On that basis Vimi Wellness developed a unique natural therapy: pelvic-floor training to boost vitality, normal marital intimacy to aid detox, dietary tweaks to balance flora. “Recurrent gynecological inflammation happens because antibiotics kill good bacteria along with bad,” she explains. “We frame our natural therapy as a positive-psychology journey, teaching women to rebuild immunity through exercise, diet and high-quality intimacy.”

This professional moat is hard to replicate. “Course content is updated in real time based on feedback; our proprietary education system, products and medical services form a closed loop. Few rivals can copy it, and even fewer founders are willing to teach personally.” Today Vimi Wellness operates two specialty clinics in Hangzhou and Hainan, creating an “education-product-medicine” chain. “What we really give clients is knowledge: products and medical services simply fill the gaps in cognition.”

From “For Others” to “For Myself”

Resetting women’s self-awareness in the She-Economy

After more than a decade, Zhang’s sharpest observation is that women’s needs have changed. Formerly clients asked, “Will my husband like this?” Now they say, “My own comfort matters most.” This shift from “altruism” to “self-pleasure” shows up in segmented demands: Gen-Z focuses on sexual protection and body literacy; post-90s women re-shape their roles in relationships; post-80s women greet menopause head-on. “Menopause isn’t the end; it’s a woman’s third flowering.”

Next, Zhang plans to push Vimi Wellness into broader markets: “We’re preparing e-commerce and an ovarian anti-aging product, and a female-emotion MCN is in the pipeline.” Clinical data from Hainan show the ovarian anti-aging formula can roll back biological age by 5–10 years for perimenopausal women—“That’s the power of science.”

“Going further, I want to modularize our knowledge system and present it as an online mall to benefit more women.” She lifts a basic-care product. “Others sell goods; we deliver an educational cognition system.” At the end of the interview, asked for the secret of her high energy, she presses a hand to her heart: “Intention matters. My original commitment has always been to women’s intimate health.”

From a thorny land once steeped in stigma to a new continent of scientific self-care, Zhang Xinyuan has walked for nearly seventeen years. Just as she teaches her students the true meaning of pelvic-floor training—every downward rooting gathers strength for the upward rise—her most urgent wish now is that Chinese women, at every stage of life, will be able to hear the truest voice of their own bodies.
